Clinical Pilates Academy
Teacher training at The Hub Glasgow
Clinical Pilates Academy
A small-cohort education pathway for Pilates teachers, movement professionals and clinicians who want depth, clinical reasoning and support beyond the course weekend.
Hands-on training, clinical observation and supported teaching practice in Glasgow.
Courses
Dates to be arranged. This is the foundation route into the method: Joseph Pilates' original matwork, the principles of Pilates, class structure, cueing, teaching presence and the history of the method.
We recommend students are also studying, or working towards, anatomy training at this stage. You can do Functional Anatomy with us or externally, but anatomy needs to sit beside your matwork learning.
Learn the reformer as part of the Pilates system: carriage, springs, straps, footbar setup, transitions, sequencing, progressions, regressions and how to teach with clarity.
This is not just learning exercises. Reformer training develops your eye for load, support, feedback, alignment, control and how spring resistance changes the body in front of you.
Tower training introduces springs, rollback bar, push-through work and tower-based applications that support, challenge and clarify movement.
You learn how the tower connects into the wider apparatus system, including how to use spring tension, setup and body position to create useful teaching decisions.
For students building towards full system understanding: mat, reformer, tower, Cadillac, barrels, arcs, spine correctors, observation, teaching practice and test-out preparation.
We generally recommend allowing around two years for the full comprehensive route. You may be teaching during that time, but you are still observing, integrating and developing depth.
Specialist workshops for teachers and allied health professionals who want to work safely and intelligently with more complex clients.
Topics include pre and postnatal Pilates, the arthritic body, systemic illness, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune disease, Parkinson's, MS, hypermobility and connective tissue disorders, GP referrals, allied health clinic pathways, posture screening, exercise prescription, the foot-knee-hip connection, hands-on tactile cueing, muscle energy techniques and assisted stretching.
In collaboration with John Gibbons. You complete the online Functional Anatomy training in your own time, with immediate lifetime access through John Gibbons' course area.
Also includes live online Zoom training and an online Functional Anatomy test-out for competency.
Education System
Students are required to shadow classes as part of their learning evidence.
Clinical observation is required at each stage so students learn to see the body in front of them.
Students build confidence through supervised teaching, feedback and portfolio evidence.
Clinical Mentorship
The pathway is built around practical observation, hands-on clinical thinking and supported teaching practice, so students develop confidence with the person in front of them, not just the exercise repertoire.
Glasgow training room
Training is practical, observed and mentored. Students learn in the room, around real bodies, with space to ask questions, practise teaching and build confidence stage by stage.
Our Clinical Edge
We are fierce about preserving Jo's method and making sure students understand what that means in practice. The exercises matter, but the method is bigger than choreography. It is a way of seeing, teaching, adapting and respecting the body in front of you.
Where our edge sits is in working clinically with clients. Our strength is injuries, healthcare conditions, referral pathways and intelligent movement education. We are primarily healthcare professionals, so we love working with Pilates teachers and allied health professionals who want to honour the method and bring a clinical edge to their teaching.
Understand the principles, not just the repertoire.
Apply the work to injuries, conditions and real bodies.
Build confidence through mentoring, observation and practice.
In-Person Training
We do not offer full teacher training by Zoom. Some CPD and workshops may be online, but the core pathway is built around being in the room: watching, asking, practising and absorbing the method.
Best Shadowing Days
Mondays in Kinning Park. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays in the East End.
Observe clinic reasoning, then see how it informs one-to-one Pilates, reformer assessment and exercise choice.
Books and videos help, but they cannot replace being around experienced clinicians and teachers in practice.
Why We Mentor
A short intensive can introduce repertoire. It cannot create a teacher who understands integration, injuries, adaptation and the body in front of them.
Student First
Before you teach the method, you need to experience it. Use your credits before and during training to take class, feel the work and learn from the room.
Join At Any Stage
If you trained with another school, that is completely fine. You may have completed your matwork training elsewhere and want to join us for equipment, or you may already hold a comprehensive Pilates qualification and want to come into Clinical Pilates Academy for deeper mentorship, clinical reasoning and observation.
Mentorship Network
Students are invited into our Pilates teachers' network and Slack group, so support continues between training days. Mentorship can be built around your times, but you do need to make the time to come in, observe and be around the work when you can.
If you live locally, that is easier to weave into your week. If you live further away, it often works better to come in batches: spend a few days with us, shadow classes, observe in clinic, team teach and then take that learning back into your own teaching.
Pilates Lineage
Joseph and Clara Pilates passed the method on through practice, observation, correction and apprenticeship. That lineage-led way of learning still matters.
Our work is especially aligned with Kathy Grant's spirit: individual observation, intelligent adaptation and learning through mentorship rather than memorised choreography.
Sarah-Jane's clinical background, movement education and years of teaching naturally align with this individualised approach: assess the person in front of you, understand what their body needs, and teach the method with precision rather than forcing a fixed template.
The Pilates Elders
Kathleen Stanford Grant was a dancer, choreographer, arts leader and first-generation Pilates teacher. Alongside Lolita San Miguel, she is widely recognised as one of the only two people Joseph Pilates personally certified to teach his method in 1967.
Kathy Grant's teaching is remembered for intelligence, precision and adaptation. That is the thread we connect with: respect the method, then meet the person in front of you.
Certification Pathway
After each training module, students receive a certificate of achievement for that specific competency. This recognises the module completed, the practical learning undertaken and the standard demonstrated at that stage.
Each module, including matwork, reformer, tower and specialist apparatus, has its own competency certificate after training and assessment evidence.
Individual module certificates are not the same as full comprehensive Pilates certification. Students must complete the full comprehensive pathway to evidence integration across the Pilates system.
After completing all required modules, students can progress to the external PMA/NPCP test-out route. This is optional, but advisable for students who want an additional recognised examination pathway.
NPCP / NCPT Test-Out
The organisation many teachers knew as the Pilates Method Alliance helped establish an independent certification pathway for Pilates teachers. That certification is now known through the National Pilates Certification Program, with the NCPT credential recognised internationally in the Pilates community.
In the UK this route is not always widely understood, because Pilates is often placed into the wider fitness category. We align with the NPCP/NCPT pathway because it speaks to the Pilates method itself: anatomy, apparatus, teaching practice, safety, ethics, scope and the integrated system, not just generic exercise instruction.
After completing the full comprehensive pathway, students may choose to prepare for the external test-out examination. Clinical Pilates Academy supports that preparation through mentoring, observation, teaching practice and guidance, while the external certification process remains separate from the module certificates issued by the Academy.
Pilates Method, Not Fitness Registration
Clinical Pilates Academy is not positioned as a generic fitness course, and our education is not built around REPs-style fitness registration. The UK fitness register landscape has changed over time, with CIMSPA now central to much of the exercise-professional sector, but that is not the lane we are claiming.
Our lane is the Pilates method: its lineage, apparatus, clinical application, observation, mentorship and integration. If a workplace or insurer requires a specific fitness-register credential, students should check that separately. What we teach is Pilates, not a fitness class template.
